The Almeida Theatre has announced the full cast for Romans, a novel, the highly anticipated new play by award-winning writer Alice Birch.
Joining the previously announced Olivier Award winner Kyle Soller (The Inheritance, Andor) are Declan Conlon, Yanexi Enriquez, Olivier Huband, Oliver Johnstone, Jerry Killick, Adelle Leonce, Agnes O’Casey and Stuart Thompson.
Directed by former Royal Court Associate Director Sam Pritchard, Romans, a novel is a monumental, kaleidoscopic portrait of masculinity from the nineteenth century to the present day.
The production explores how male narratives have shaped the world we know, through a series of vivid and often surreal vignettes.
HE is a motherless child. A bullied schoolboy. An adventurer scaling mountains. A coloniser of land, of people. Brother. Father. Soldier. Cult leader. He is sipping champagne at his book launch. He is up by 4am for weights, cardio, ice bath. He is recording a podcast. He is living as a badger.
Romans, a novel runs from Tuesday 9 September to Saturday 11 October 2025, with press night on Wednesday 17 September at 7pm.
The creative team includes Merle Hensel (Set and Costume Design), Lee Curran (Lighting Design), Benjamin Grant (Sound Design), Jasmin Kent Rodgman (Composer), Hannes Langolf (Movement Director), Amy Ball CDG (Casting Director), and Neetu Singh (Assistant Director).
The production is generously supported by Dianne Roberts.
