The full cast has been announced for the major new musical The Ballad of Johnny & June, which embarks on a UK and Ireland tour from March to September 2026.

The production opens at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre on 2 March 2026, marking the start of a tour that will visit more than 20 venues across the country.

Following sell-out seasons at California’s La Jolla Playhouse and Canada’s Citadel Theatre, Christopher Ryan Grant returns to the role of Johnny Cash for the UK and Ireland tour.

Two-time Drama Desk Award nominee Christina Bianco will star as June Carter Cash.

Joining them, Ryan O’Donnell will play John Carter Cash, with Christopher Short cast as Man One, Chomba S. Taulo as Man Two, and Peter Peverley as Man Three.

The female ensemble includes Abigail Matthews as Woman One, Anne-Marie Wojna as Woman Two, and Celyn Cartwright as Woman Three.

The cast is completed by swings Denis Grindel, Lenny Turner, Michael Mahony and Mia Jae.

The musical is co-created by John Carter Cash, son of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, and is narrated from his perspective, drawing on his own memories of his parents.

Featuring a soundtrack of hits including I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, Jackson, Hey Porter and Wildwood Flower, the show explores the personal and professional lives of one of music’s most iconic couples.

John Carter Cash said: “It has meant a great deal to me to be involved in bringing this new musical to the stage and see my parents Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash’s story told with such care, heart and honesty.”

“Johnny and June’s music was inseparable from their lives, and this musical captures that truth through powerful story telling by a brilliant company, set to their genre-defining music.”

“I have loved working with the creative team, and my family and I are both delighted and proud that audiences across the UK and Ireland get to see this celebration of their legacy.”

The production is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff and is presented by Trafalgar Theatre Productions, The Dodgers, Tommy Mottola and TEG Dainty in cooperation with the John R. Cash and June Carter Cash Trusts.
