Pitlochry Festival Theatre has announced the full cast for the return of its acclaimed production of The Sound of Music, running from 14 November to 21 December 2025.

Directed by Associate Director Sam Hardie, this revival follows Elizabeth Newman’s celebrated 2024 staging of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic.

As previously announced, Kirsty Findlay will reprise her award-winning role as Maria Rainer, alongside Ali Watt as Captain Georg von Trapp.

Returning cast members include Kate Milner Evans as Mother Abbess, Ellen Lawford as Baroness Elberfeld and Sister Sophia, Lydia Barton Lovett as Sister Margaretta, and Trudy Ward as Frau Schmidt.

New additions to the cast feature Miiya Alexandra as Elsa Schraeder and Sister Berthe, Eden Barrie as Ensemble and Understudy for Maria Rainer/Liesl, Mother Abbess/Elsa Schraeder, Oliver Nazareth Aston as Max Detweiler, and Ru Hamilton as Admiral von Schreiber/Baron Elberfeld.

The roles of the von Trapp children will be shared by Rowan Kennedy, Anna Rose Loughran, Rebecca Littlejohn, Isla MacGregor, Ross Martin, Joseph Miranda, Theo Miranda, Molly Morris, Tanvi Reddy, Leva Stewart, Hannah Watt, and Niamh Wishart.

Director Sam Hardie said:
ā€œI am thrilled to be working with this brilliant company on the revival of The Sound of Music this year. This beautiful production, packed full of love and hope, moved so many audiences last year and we are so excited to be bringing it back this year with some returning and new company members.ā€

The Sound of Music is the final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein and remains one of the world’s most beloved musicals. Featuring iconic songs such as Climb Ev’ry Mountain, My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, and the title number, it has won five Tony Awards and five Oscars.

Based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, the musical follows a postulant who becomes governess to the seven children of Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to their home. As Austria falls under Nazi control, the family must make a life-changing decision.
