Pitlochry Festival Theatre has announced more events for 2026, adding to the programme already revealed for Alan Cumming’s inaugural season as Artistic Director.
The newly unveiled events showcase a wide range of Scotland’s leading artists, spanning dance, theatre, music and comedy across the year.
The programme launches in March with Scottish Roots on 14 March, a triple bill by Scottish Dance Theatre celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary.
The evening features O Chiadain An Lo with music by Brìghde Chaimbeul, Moving Cloud with music by folk group TRIP, and the premiere of Off-Season, a new work by Edinburgh-based choreographer Tess Letham.
Scottish Dance Theatre will return to the theatre in September with Little Ray on 15 September, a playful dance performance for children aged three to five and their grown-ups, developed in collaboration with early years specialists Starcatchers.
Joan Clevillé, Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre, said: “Bringing our 40th anniversary season to Pitlochry feels especially meaningful, particularly with work that captures both the energy and heart of Scottish Dance Theatre. From the traditional and contemporary fusion of our Scottish Roots triple bill to the playful, intimate world of Little Ray, sharing these performances here is a wonderful way to celebrate and to invite audiences of all ages to experience dance together.”
On Saturday 21 March, Edinburgh University Chamber Choir will appear at Pitlochry Festival Theatre with a programme spanning centuries of choral music, including Poulenc’s Sept Chansons.
Later in the month, Highland musicians Gary Innes and Ewen Henderson will perform on 28 March, marking 20 years of playing together with an anniversary concert of music, stories and humour.
Gary Innes said: “Pitlochry Festival Theatre is an incredible venue, and a stage that we have loved sharing our music and fun on for many years with Mànran, and others, and so to return as part of our 20th anniversary tour will indeed be a special night for us both.”
In June, the theatre’s Pavilion in the Explorers Garden will host the Scottish premiere of Sharron Devine’s The Only Way Out Is In, running from 17 to 21 June and 24 to 28 June.
The live, one-on-one multi-sensory experience explores themes of nature, power, trust and choice, and was originally commissioned by Theatre Absolute for Coventry UK City of Culture 2021.
Sharron Devine said: “After almost 3 decades developing my craft in theatre, I couldn’t be more excited to make my debut with and in my own work at the magical Pitlochry Festival Theatre under this new exciting tenure led by Alan Cumming.
“It’s been so easy and my absolute joy this last year to work with the team to make bringing The Only Way Out Is In to Pitlochry audiences a reality.”
Additional 2026 events include a return of A Play A Pie A Pint with Milly Sweeney’s Someone’s Knockin’ at the Door, comedy performances from Susie McCabe and Fred MacAulay, and music events including The Legends of American Country Show and the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra’s Big Band Jazz in the Afternoon.
Further announcements are expected in the coming months, with all currently announced events now on general sale.
