Troupe has announced the full cast for the world première of Simon Reade’s stage adaptation of Patrick Hamilton’s Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky, opening at Southwark Playhouse Borough this September.
Joining the previously announced Yanexi Enriquez, Rosalind Lailey and Jordan Scowen are Michael Maloney, Alex Bhat and Lucy Gray.
Directed by Matthew Iliffe, the production runs from 10 September to 17 October 2026, with an official press night on Wednesday 16 September.
Based on Hamilton’s celebrated trilogy of novels, the play is set in late 1920s London and follows three lonely individuals whose lives become intertwined through desire, obsession and the search for connection.
Set around the seedy Midnight Bell pub, the story centres on aspiring writer and barman Bob, barmaid Ella, who longs for him, and the enigmatic prostitute Jenny Maple, who becomes the object of Bob’s fixation.
Described as both darkly comic and devastating, the adaptation brings Hamilton’s portrait of Jazz Age London to the stage in a new production from the company behind acclaimed adaptations including The Forsyte Saga and A Single Man.

The cast will feature Alex Bhat as George Perry, Yanexi Enriquez as Jenny Maple, Lucy Gray as Prunella, Landlady and Waitress, Rosalind Lailey as Ella Dawson, Michael Maloney as Ernest Eccles and Jordan Scowen as Bob.
The creative team includes set and costume designer Ellie Wintour, lighting designer Alex Musgrave, sound designer and composer Elizabeth Purnell, movement director Sam Spencer-Lane and intimacy director Jess Tucker Boyd.
Patrick Hamilton is best known for works including Gaslight, Rope and Hangover Square, while Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky was previously adapted for television by the BBC in 2005.
