The Menier Chocolate Factory is set to delight audiences with a major revival of The Baker’s Wife. The production, directed by the acclaimed Gordon Greenberg, promises a fresh take on the classic musical with music and lyrics by the legendary Stephen Schwartz and a book by Joseph Stein.
Opening on 17 July, with previews starting from 6 July, the show will run until 14 September. This marks a renewed collaboration between the Menier Chocolate Factory and Schwartz, reminiscent of their successful production of Pippin in 2011.
The Baker’s Wife, based on the 1938 French film by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono, tells the story of a quaint village turned topsy-turvy by the arrival of a new baker and his alluring younger wife. The musical is celebrated for Schwartz’s enchanting score, which will once again captivate audiences with its beauty and Gallic charm.
The creative team behind this revival is nothing short of stellar. Alongside Greenberg, whose recent Broadway hit The Heart of Rock and Roll garnered critical acclaim, the production features choreography by Olivier award winner Matt Cole and designs by Paul Farnsworth. Musical direction is helmed by Dustin Conrad, with musical supervision and orchestrations by Stuart Morley.
While full casting details are yet to be announced, tickets have already gone on sale for Menier Chocolate Factory Supporters, with public booking set to open on 8 May.
