The Old Vic has announced a summer run of How the Other Half Loves, alongside plans to stage a reimagined version of Martin Guerre later this year.
Alan Ayckbourn’s classic comedy will run from 29 July to 19 September, starring Roger Allam and Dorothy Atkinson.
Directed by Phillip Breen, the production returns the play to its original in-the-round staging.
Described as a “laugh-out-loud domestic farce”, the play follows three couples whose lives become entangled when accusations of infidelity spiral into chaos.
‘I haven’t got any problems.’
‘Never mind, we’ll soon invent some.’
Ayckbourn’s play, widely regarded as one of his defining works, explores themes of class, marriage and misunderstanding through a fast-paced and intricately structured narrative.
Later in the year, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Martin Guerre will be reimagined for the London stage in a new production directed by Matthew Warchus.
The musical, which originally won the Olivier Award, will feature new music, lyrics and folk-inspired orchestrations, alongside a fresh in-the-round staging.
Billed as “an all-new version”, the production revisits the true story of identity, love and deception, offering audiences a preview run of semi-staged performances.
Martin Guerre will run for five weeks, with full details and on sale dates to be announced.
