The producers behind Mark Gatiss’ hit stage adaptation of A Christmas Carol will bring a new festive mystery to London this Christmas as Sherlock Holmes and the Twelve Days of Christmas arrives at Alexandra Palace Theatre.
Presented by Eleanor Lloyd Productions, Eilene Davidson Productions and Heartaches Limited, the Birmingham Rep production will open in previews on 24 November 2026 and run until 17 January 2027, with a press night scheduled for 1 December.
Written by Humphrey Ker and David Reed, and directed by Phillip Breen, the comedy spoof follows the world’s most famous detective as he investigates a bizarre series of murders linked to the classic festive song, The Twelve Days of Christmas.
Set in Victorian London during the festive season, the story begins as performers in the glittering West End start dropping dead mid-performance. While Scotland Yard dismisses the incidents as anything suspicious, Sherlock Holmes uncovers a disturbing connection that suggests something far more sinister is at work.
As the mystery deepens, Holmes must save French Hens, recover Gold Rings and rescue Mother Goose before the killer strikes again. With mounting danger and a deadly confrontation looming, he is joined by Dr Watson and rival detective Athena Faversham in a race against time.
On behalf of the producers, Eleanor Lloyd said: “We are so excited to be bringing this Christmas cracker of a Sherlock Holmes mystery to London, and especially to the breathtaking Alexandra Palace Theatre. Prepare to be transported to Victorian England, but with a touch more tinsel.”
Tickets for the production are on sale now, with performances running Tuesday to Saturday evenings and Sunday performances at 5pm. Accessibility performances include a captioned performance on 3 January 2027 and an audio described performance on 12 January 2027.
