Acclaimed actor, writer and director Che Walker spreads their wings in Mama Goose, this year’s festive pantomime at Stratford East. Known for their acclaimed stage and screen work, Che brings their signature energy and wit to the role of Gary the Goose.

Mama Goose promises a magical East London twist on a beloved fairy tale, filled with music, laughter and heart. With a stellar creative team led by Vikki Stone and Tonderai Munyevu, it’s set to be one of the season’s theatrical highlights.

Mama Goose runs at Stratford East from Friday 21 November 2025 to Saturday 3 January 2026. Book your tickets now here.

You’re starring in Mama Goose at Stratford East, what can you tell us about the show?

Mama Goose explores the temptation of wealth and fame and asks the question – what is actually important? What are our life’s riches?

What drew you to the role of Gary the Goose, and how do you see this character fitting into the world of Mama Goose?

Gary The Goose is so much fun to play – he’s a rough rugged bloke who, er, is also a Goose! I am enjoying exploring and representing my cockney heritage.

You’ve worked extensively as an actor, writer, and director, how do those experiences influence the way you approach a role like this one?

Working as writer/director/actor can give you an overview of how everything fits together – though I have never done a panto before, never sung or danced or flown so it’s all very new!

Stratford East pantomimes are known for their modern East London flair. How does this production honour tradition while keeping things fresh for today’s audiences?

Stratford East have been way ahead of other theatres for decades when it comes to innovating within panto form and tradition. The work is always rooted in a sense of community, and they don’t get caught up with parachuting someone off the telly into a show.

What has it been like working with co-directors and writers Vikki Stone and Tonderai Munyevu on this project?

Vikki and Tonderai are brilliant to work with – supportive, fun, playful, but they keep their eye on detail and make sure we are serving the story.

What would you say to anyone thinking of booking to see Mama Goose?

Book early and bring the whole family! Stratford East has a unique atmosphere – like a hug from your Nan!
