Marie Blount stars in the UK tour of Katie Redford’s Tapped. Which will play at Upstairs at the Gatehouse before touring.
Piers Black directs Marie Blount (Dawn), AK Golding (Jen), and Max Hastings (Gavi) in the UK tour. Tapped was written as a response to the resurgence of the self-help dialogue, now deeply embedded in today’s online culture, highlighting that positive jargon is ultimately meaningless without real human connection.
Following a successful world-premiere at Theatre503 in 2022, Tapped will preview at Upstairs at the Gatehouse on 8 May, before touring to Wolverhampton, Hereford, Peterborough, Bolton, Hull, Scarborough, Kendal, Newcastle, Nottingham, Rugby, Norfolk, Colchester, Bath and concluding in Guilford at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre on 27 May 2023.

You’re starring in Tapped opening its UK tour at Upstairs at the Gatehouse, what can you tell us about the play?
The play is a bittersweet story about the ripple effects of mental health within families, and the impact that has on relationships and outlook.
What was it about Katy Redford’s writing that excited you the most?
The brave way the truthfulness of the characters has been written surrounded by humour and pathos.
This is a play about connection, why do you think it’s so important to tell this kind of story on stage?
Purely because it affects us all. Such truthful telling of family connections, both the conflict and joy they can bring, enable us to get a better perspective of our own relationships.
You play Dawn, tell us a little about the character and what you’re enjoying most about the role?
Dawn is a multifaceted character who is constantly battling with her mental health. She’s warm, funny, cutting, and sad! I love playing her humour with utter sincerity and her lack of awareness that she is so amusing!
And what are you looking forward to most about taking it out on tour?
Definitely the play coming alive with the audience reactions to the characters, and the subject matter and seeing how this differs from place to place.
What would you say to anyone thinking of booking to see Tapped?
Do it! You will laugh and cry and be thoroughly entertained! And you’ll come away with a deeper understanding of mental health.
