Internationally acclaimed choreographer Jasmin Vardimon MBE has announced the world premiere and UK tour of Lullaby, a new production that revisits the world of her award-winning 2003 work through a contemporary lens.
Premiering this autumn, Lullaby asks what it truly means to care for ourselves, for one another, and for the systems that support health and wellbeing.
Vardimon’s original Lullaby, set in a hospital ward, was a landmark work in her career, earning awards and helping establish her as an Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells. More than two decades later, she returns to the piece with what is described as a bold new vision for the stage.
Set against the clinical backdrop of a hospital environment, Lullaby explores the dualities of human life, including joy and despair, vulnerability and resilience, and sickness and wellbeing.
Through striking imagery and emotionally charged performance, the production examines themes of care, health and human connection at a time when increasing pressure on healthcare systems and social disconnection are becoming ever more visible.
Jasmin Vardimon said: “When I first created Lullaby, I was drawn to the hospital ward as a place where the personal and the universal meet. It is a space of fragility and strength, where the body carries both vulnerability and resilience. Returning to this world now allows me to look again at what it means to care, for ourselves and others. I wanted to revisit the work through today’s lens, not as a memory, but as a new creation for this moment.”
The production will receive its world premiere at JV H.O.M.E. in Ashford, the company’s purpose-built creation and production space, before embarking on a UK tour.
Tour dates include performances at King’s Theatre Edinburgh, Theatre Royal Nottingham, Theatre Royal Winchester, Liverpool Playhouse, Connaught Theatre Worthing, Lawrence Batley Theatre Huddersfield, Exeter Northcott and DanceEast Ipswich.
Lullaby is co-commissioned by Sadler’s Wells, Ashford Borough Council and DanceEast.
