Olivier Award nominee John McCrea and Perry Williams will star in the world premiere of Louis Emmitt-Stern’s Slippery, opening at Omnibus Theatre this March.
Salt Lick Productions has announced full casting and creatives for the Soho Theatre Tony Craze Award winning play. Matthew Iliffe directs McCrea as Jude, with Williams as Kyle, in this tense and intimate new comedy-drama.
Matthew Iliffe said today, “It’s a great joy to be working with John McCrea and Perry Williams, who will create the roles of Jude, a city lawyer caught in a downward spiral, and Kyle, who is pushed to the limit when their unexpected encounter turns dangerous. Together, and in such close quarters, sparks and spaghetti will fly.”
Slippery begins previews on 17 March, opening on 19 March and running until 11 April.
The creative team includes Hannah Schmidt on set and costume design, Ryan Joseph Stafford on lighting, Anna Short on sound, Jess Tucker Boyd as intimacy director, Gillian Greer as dramaturg, and casting by Nadine Rennie CDG.
The production is presented in partnership with London Friend, the UK’s oldest LGBTQ+ charity, who have supported the play’s development. Further details of the collaboration will be announced soon.
Antidote, London Friend’s Drug and Alcohol recovery service, commented, “We’re happy to be supporting the team on Slippery to bring their story to life with authenticity, nuance and compassion. We hope that the play contributes towards demystifying and destigmatising sexualised drug use and the issues which surround it in the LGBTQ+ community as well as making those who have faced these issues themselves in any way feel positively represented on stage. We also hope to make more people aware of our service and know that we’re here to talk if you want to better understand your relationship with alcohol, drugs and/or chemsex.”
Set at 3AM in a London flat, the play follows Jude and Kyle as they return from A&E. A decade after their difficult breakup, their unexpected reunion threatens to unravel them both.
Matthew Iliffe, an Off-West End Award winner, brings extensive experience to the project, having directed productions including Foam, Bacon and Four Play. Emmitt-Stern’s previous work includes I Fcked You in My Spaceship* and Snakes and Ladders.
