Internationally acclaimed choreographer and solo performer Maria Caruso will premiere her new work Counterpoint of Chaos at His Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End on Sunday 31 May 2026 at 7pm.
The bold new solo performance explores the evolving relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence through a fiercely physical and visually striking dance language. Caruso, celebrated for her precise yet organic movement style, examines questions of identity, autonomy and authorship as technology increasingly influences human creativity.
She said, “Counterpoint of Chaos explores the tension between control and surrender in a world being shaped by technology. I’ve been working with AI almost like a mirror, as it reflects ideas back to me, questions choices, and helps me see the work from outside myself. It’s not replacing creativity; it’s provoking it. At its core, the show is about reclaiming agency and finding a conscious relationship with the tools we create. My husband is a globally recognized biotechnology scientist and a leader in artificial intelligence‑driven medical innovation – so conversations over the dinner table have certainly had some influence on Counterpoint of Chaos!”
The production features an original score by Ryan Onestak, moving from analogue warmth to high‑definition precision as it mirrors the interplay between human and technological expression.
A Pittsburgh native, Caruso is the Founding Director of Bodiography Contemporary Ballet and one of the few artists outside the Martha Graham Company permitted to perform Lamentations. Her career spans global touring, choreographic commissions and a long‑standing commitment to dance education.
Ahead of the London premiere, Caruso will teach a masterclass at Salford University on 26 May and present a preview performance in Salerno on 28 May. Counterpoint of Chaos will begin its international touring life in South America later in 2026, where Caruso will also create a new ballet for Cisne Negro Cia de Dança and teach community classes.
The performance will run for two hours including a Q&A with Caruso. The work will additionally become a cinematic release on premium digital platforms, with special educational screenings planned for students across the United States.
