National Theatre has announced that Owain & Henry, the new co-production from Wales Millennium Centre and Welsh National Theatre, will stream worldwide on National Theatre at Home from 1 March 2027.
The historical epic, written by Olivier Award-winning playwright Gary Owen, stars Michael Sheen and Linus Roache and will be captured live during its run at the Donald Gordon Theatre, Wales Millennium Centre, from 5 to 28 November 2026.
Co-directed by Michael Sheen and Steffan Donnelly, Owain & Henry tells the story of Welsh prince Owain Glyndŵr and King Henry IV, exploring leadership, power and nationhood against the backdrop of one of the most significant conflicts in Welsh history.
The production follows Glyndŵr’s transformation from outlawed lord to leader of a rebellion that threatens to reshape Britain, while King Henry IV struggles to retain control of the throne.
The cast also includes Rakie Ayola as Mared Ferch Dafydd, Emily Burnett as Catrin Ferch Owain, Sophie Melville, Ned Costello, Brendan Charleson, Sion Tudor Owen, Gruffudd Glyn, Ian Hughes, David Judge, Richard Lynch and James Wilbraham, alongside a large ensemble.
The production marks a major collaboration between Welsh National Theatre and Wales Millennium Centre, bringing one of Wales’ most important historical stories to a global audience through National Theatre at Home’s streaming platform.
Michael Sheen, Artistic Director of Welsh National Theatre and Co-Director of Owain & Henry, and Graeme Farrow, Chief Creative Officer of Wales Millennium Centre, said: “It is a privilege to help bring Gary Owen’s powerful vision of Owain & Henry to the stage alongside this remarkable company.
