New English Shakespeare Company Much Ado About Nothing

A brand-new British theatre company has just launched, promising to take the most iconic works by the world’s most celebrated playwright to new audiences all over the globe. New English Shakespeare Company brings its own contemporary and musical twist to Shakespeare’s most beloved plays. It will celebrate excellence in theatre, enlisting the best of British theatrical talent to create vibrant, inventive and accessible productions.

Jamie Hendry (Producer): “Shakespeare is one of the best, if not the best, British cultural export. His plays have the extraordinary ability to transcend borders, cultures and language. New English Shakespeare Company was born out of a passion to make Shakespeare’s work resonate with today’s audiences. The world is an increasingly fractured place to live in right now, and Britain’s place within it is under the spotlight. Shakespeare’s words speak to everyone, and our mission is to help his plays sing out loud and clear to the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere in productions that are bold, lively, relevant, meaningful and, above all, entertaining!”

New English Shakespeare Company launches with its production of Much Ado About Nothing directed by acclaimed director Derek Bond, with scenic and costume design by James Perkins. The production will premiere at Dubai Opera from 25 September 2019, before embarking on an international tour.

Much Ado About Nothing sees a company of eleven talented actor-musicians bring Shakespeare’s wittiest comedy to life in a vibrant, funny and profoundly moving portrayal that places language and music at the heart of the show.

Full cast includes Geri Allen (Effigies of Wickedness, English National Opera / Gate Theatre), James Clyde (King Lear, Royal Shakespeare Company), Samuel Collings (Boudica, Shakespeare’s Globe), Simon Darwen (The Pitman Painters, New Vic Theatre), Kirsten Foster (Salt City, Royal Court Theatre), Adele James (Nine Night, Trafalgar Studios), William Pennington (A Christmas Carol, Northern Stage), Adam Sopp (Henry V, Barn Theatre), Obioma Ugoala (Hamilton, Victoria Palace), Daniel Reid-Walters (Do It For Her, The Arcola) and Zoe West (Out of Water, The Orange Tree / RSC).
