A brand new production of HIM by award-winning playwright Natalie Ekberg will run at London’s Union Theatre from 19 to 30 October 2026.
Directed by Simon Fielding, the intimate new drama follows Jane, Charlie and Osmond as they navigate an unconventional family arrangement that is tested by time, doubt and unresolved emotions.
When Jane unexpectedly falls pregnant with Charlie, she agrees that he will raise the child with his new partner, Osmond. As the years pass, their carefully constructed agreement begins to fracture under the strain of lingering resentment, conflicting loyalties and unanswered questions.
Described as darkly funny, emotionally charged and painfully honest, HIM explores the truths and lies people create to protect themselves and those they love, while examining the decisions that can shape an entire lifetime.
The production is billed as an intimate and deliberately morally complex exploration of a contemporary LGBTQ+ family, asking difficult questions about parenthood, responsibility and the meaning of family.
The cast includes Dan Furlonger as Charlie, Hannah Chalmers as Jane, Alan P. Jones as Kit, Gary Tushaw as Osmond and Julie Wood as Nana.
Writer Natalie Ekberg is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter whose work spans theatre, film and television. Her previous play Diversifications was selected for the Women Voices Festival in the United States, where it received one of the festival’s major awards.
Director Simon Fielding brings extensive experience in theatre, musical theatre and pantomime. Alongside a career as an actor spanning nearly four decades, Fielding has received multiple UK Pantomime Awards, including Best Director in 2024.
The production holds particular significance for Fielding, who is the father of two daughters born through surrogacy. His personal experience of building a family outside traditional structures has given him a strong connection to a play that examines who gets to define parenthood and family.
HIM runs at Union Theatre, London, from 19 to 30 October 2026, with a press night scheduled for Wednesday 21 October at 7.30pm.
