New production images have been released for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera as Cameron Mackintosh’s production prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary in the West End.
The landmark musical will mark four decades at His Majesty’s Theatre with a special gala performance on 9 October 2026, exactly 40 years after its original opening in London.
To commemorate the occasion, celebrated alumni from across the show’s history will join the current company on stage for a special curtain call following the anniversary performance.
A strictly limited number of tickets for the gala performance will be released later this month, with all proceeds from ticket sales matched by both the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and the Mackintosh Foundation.
The funds raised will launch the new Phantom 40th Scholarship Programme, which will support professional training at leading performing arts schools across the UK and help remove financial barriers for talented young performers pursuing careers in music and the performing arts.
The programme will be administered by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and will open for applications for the 2027-28 academic year.
The anniversary cast has now been completed with the addition of Jordan Donica as The Phantom. He joins Beatrice Penny-Touré as Christine Daaé and Rhys Whitfield as Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny.
Also appearing in the special anniversary company are Sierra Boggess as Carlotta, Matt Bateman as Piangi, Joseph Millson as Monsieur André, Ian Pirie as Monsieur Firmin, Joanna Riding as Madame Giry and Millie Lyon as Meg Giry. Colleen Rose Curran will perform the role of Christine at selected performances.
The anniversary company will perform through to 21 November 2026 at His Majesty’s Theatre.
Since opening in 1986, The Phantom of the Opera has become one of the most successful musicals in theatre history, playing to more than 160 million people across 217 cities in 52 territories and 23 languages.
Featuring a score that includes The Music of the Night, All I Ask of You, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, Masquerade and the title song, the musical continues to captivate audiences around the world four decades after its premiere.
