Following acclaimed runs at London’s Donmar Warehouse and Wyndham’s Theatre, the award-winning musical Next To Normal will be screened in cinemas across the UK on 11 and 14 September 2025.

The screenings follow the release of Next To Normal: Original London Cast Recording by Ghostlight Records, available digitally and on streaming platforms from 30 May 2025.

Filmed at Wyndham’s Theatre in summer 2024, the cinematic broadcast features the original London cast: Caissie Levy, Jamie Parker, Jack Wolfe, Eleanor Worthington-Cox, Trevor Dion Nicholas and Jack Ofrecio.

Directed for the stage by Michael Longhurst, Next To Normal is a powerful rock musical with music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey. The show explores themes of mental illness, grief, and family dynamics through the story of Diana Goodman, a suburban mother living with bipolar disorder.

The production was nominated for four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, and received widespread critical acclaim. The Sunday Express called it “Electrifying… beautiful… heartwrenching,” while the Evening Standard praised its “compassionate, thoughtful, but also witty” approach to mental health.

Michael Longhurst said of the upcoming screenings:
“After the absolutely astonishing reaction to its US release, I’m so excited that UK audiences will now be able experience the raw power of Next to Normal and the heartbreaking detail of those incredible performances in close up, on the big screen.”

The film was produced by Liberator Film Services and directed for the screen by Michael Longhurst and Austin Shaw. It was first broadcast in the US on PBS as part of their Great Performances series.

The cast also includes Carolyn Maitland, Ben Heathcote, Jake Reynolds and Lizzy Parker as standbys. The creative team features Musical Supervisor Nigel Lilley, Designer Chloe Lamford, Choreographer Ann Yee, Lighting Designer Lee Curran, Sound Designer Tony Gayle, and Video Designer Tal Rosner.
