A new live, multi-sensory one-on-one theatre experience will have its Scottish première at Pitlochry Festival Theatre this summer.

The Only Way Out Is In, created by Scottish independent theatre artist Sharron Devine, runs in the Pavilion within the theatre’s Explorers Garden from 17 to 21 and 24 to 28 June 2026.

Originally commissioned by Theatre Absolute and selling out during Coventry UK City of Culture 2021, the production is limited to just one audience member per performance.

The three-act experience explores themes of nature, control, power, risk, balance, trust and choice, using sound, visuals and immersive elements to place audience care at the centre of the encounter.

Devine said, “After almost 3 decades developing my craft in theatre, I couldn’t be more excited to make my debut with and in my own work at the magical Pitlochry Festival Theatre under this new exciting tenure led by Alan Cumming.

It’s been so easy and my absolute joy this last year to work with the team to make bringing The Only Way Out Is In to Pitlochry audiences a reality.”

The production is suitable for adults aged 18 and above and includes a short section in which audience members are asked to wear a blindfold.

The show forms part of Alan Cumming’s first season as Artistic Director, as Pitlochry Festival Theatre celebrates its 75th anniversary.
