Pitlochry Festival Theatre has announced the cast for the world première of Inexperience, a new play by award‑winning Scottish playwright Douglas Maxwell.
Opening the theatre’s 2026 Studio season, the witty and heartfelt comedy explores touch, memory and the defining moments that shape a life.
Directed by award‑winning actor Sally Reid, Inexperience will run in the Studio from 13 June to 4 July.
The story centres on Robin, a meticulous Sheriff Clerk who avoids mess in every aspect of his life. His ordered world is disrupted when Iris, an impulsive and passionate figure from his past, reappears.
Back in the 1990s, the pair made a bold agreement that they could touch only once in their entire lives to preserve a spark that usually fades. Iris forgot. Robin never did.
As they meet again decades later, the play asks whether a single moment can live up to a lifetime of anticipation.
With humour and emotional depth, Maxwell explores intimacy in a culture where physical contact is increasingly complex.
The cast for Inexperience includes Adura Onashile, Sandy Grierson, Alexander Tait and Sophie Fortune, who will be making her professional stage debut.
Maxwell has been one of Scotland’s leading playwrights since his 2000 debut Our Bad Magnet. His recent work includes Man’s Best Friend at The Tron and the multi‑award‑winning So Young at The Citizens Theatre. His plays also include The Sheriff Of Kalamaki, Orphans, Decky Does a Bronco and The Whip Hand.
Inexperience premières at Pitlochry Festival Theatre from 13 June to 4 July.
