New production images have been released for the critically acclaimed play Stereophonic, ahead of its West End opening at the Duke of York’s Theatre later this month.
Written by David Adjmi and directed by Daniel Aukin, Stereophonic features original songs by Grammy Award winner and Academy Award nominee Will Butler of Arcade Fire.
The cast includes Zachary Hart as Reg, Lucy Karczewski as Diana, Jack Riddiford as Peter, and Nia Towle as Holly. They are joined by Andrew R. Butler and Eli Gelb as sound engineers Charlie and Grover, and Chris Stack as Simon, all reprising their roles from the Broadway production.
Understudies for the West End run include Sam Denia, Rima Georges, Lucy Gray, and Steve Shirley.
Set in 1976, Stereophonic follows a rising rock band as they attempt to record a breakthrough album. Amidst a haze of drugs, jealousy, and creative tension, the band teeters on the edge of greatness—or collapse.
The play made history on Broadway as the most Tony Award-nominated play ever, and the most Tony Award-winning show of 2024.
It won five Tony Awards: Best Play, Best Direction of a Play (Daniel Aukin), Best Scenic Design of a Play (David Zinn), Best Sound Design of a Play (Ryan Rumery), and Best Featured Actor in a Play (Will Brill).
The creative team includes David Zinn (scenic design), Enver Chakartash (costume design), Jiyoun Chang (lighting design), Will Butler and Justin Craig (orchestrations), Ryan Rumery (sound design), and Justin Craig (music direction). Hair and wig design is by Robert Pickens and Katie Gell.
Stereophonic is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Seaview, Linden Productions, Ashley Melone & Nick Mills, and Playwrights Horizons.
Andrew R. Butler, Eli Gelb, and Chris Stack appear with the support of Equity UK under an exchange programme with American Equity.
