Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has announced that Andrew Logan’s Alternative Miss World 2026: Gaia will make its open-air debut on Sunday 13 September 2026.
The iconic pageant, founded by artist and sculptor Andrew Logan in 1972, returns for its 16th edition with a nature-inspired theme celebrating the interconnectedness of life on Earth.
Inspired by the Gaia hypothesis of the late chemist James Lovelock, the one-night event promises a colourful celebration of the planet, inviting contestants to interpret the theme through imaginative costumes and performances.
Taking place at the Open Air Theatre at 6pm, contestants will compete across three rounds: daywear, swimwear and evening wear. Entries will be judged on poise, personality and originality by a panel of guest judges.
Over more than five decades, Alternative Miss World has attracted an array of trailblazing artists and cultural figures including Grayson Perry, Divine, Leigh Bowery, Jenny Runacre, Derek Jarman, Jarvis Cocker, Zandra Rhodes, Princess Julia and Daniel Lismore.
Described as a pioneering celebration of British queer culture, the event combines performance art, fashion, spectacle and humour, with audiences encouraged to embrace the theme and dress up for the occasion.
Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre said the event offers “a fabulously fitting and much needed night of festivity” at a time when environmental concerns continue to dominate conversations around the world.
Alternative Miss World 2026: Gaia takes place for one night only on 13 September 2026. Tickets go on sale at 2pm on Thursday 23 July.
