Riverside Studios has unveiled the first events in its programme celebrating 50 years as one of West London’s most innovative artistic hubs.
The venue, which opened in 1976, will mark its anniversary with a season inspired by its rich history. Highlights include in‑conversation events with Dame Helen Mirren and Sir Lenny Henry, a reunion of the stars of Goodness Gracious Me, and a special performance from Gyles Brandreth.
On Sunday 15 March, Dame Helen Mirren returns to Riverside Studios for Dame Helen Mirren in Conversation, a fundraising evening in which she will reflect on her remarkable career with director and producer Simon Curtis. Audiences will also have the chance to submit questions in advance.
Mirren previously starred at the venue in 1979 in Peter Gill’s acclaimed production of Measure for Measure, and has since become one of the world’s most decorated actors.
Sir Lenny Henry in Conversation will take place on Tuesday 14 April. Broadcaster and author Gyles Brandreth will interview Henry about his life and work, with the event recorded for Brandreth’s podcast Rosebud. Audiences may also submit questions in advance.
On Sunday 26 April, Nina Wadia, Sanjeev Bhaskar OBE and Kulvinder Ghir will reunite with producer Jon Plowman CBE for Goodness Gracious Me in Conversation. The panel will discuss the creation and legacy of the groundbreaking sketch series, which began life at Riverside Studios as the live show Peter Sellers is Dead.
On Sunday 28 June, Gyles Brandreth returns with Gyles Brandreth – Up Memory Lane, a personal exploration of memory and storytelling, joined by producing partner Harriet Jaine.
From 17 March to 3 May, Riverside Studios will also present Pull Focus, a major exhibition celebrating 40 years of the Riverside Artists Group. Curated by Katharine Meynell, the exhibition features work, film and archival material from 33 members of the collective.
Tickets for the anniversary events are on priority sale to Riverside passholders. General sale begins at 10am on Tuesday 24 February via the Riverside Studios website.
Season curator Daniel Thurman said, “The variety of special guests and events we are presenting throughout 2026 speaks to Riverside’s legacy as an intersection and an incubator for the arts. Actors, comedians, artists, musicians, producers and directors have always found a home at Riverside Studios – and that is as true today as it ever was.”
Head of Programming Rhys Williamson said, “For half a century Riverside Studios has been a launchpad for groundbreaking work across theatre, film, comedy and the visual arts. This anniversary season honours that legacy while reaffirming our commitment to championing new voices and new ideas for the future.”
Trustee Anil Agarwal said, “Riverside’s impact on the arts cannot be underestimated. From championing emerging artists and reinventing the classics to presenting global stars and historic live broadcasts, Riverside’s history and influence is something we can all be proud of.”
