Selladoor Venues The Queens Theatre

Following the recent support from the DCMS Culture recovery fund Selladoor Worldwide confirm their festive season of entertainment for venues – the New Theatre Peterborough, the Queen’s Theatre Barnstaple, and Ilfracombe’s Landmark Theatre.

The hilarious Jimmy Carr will open the festive season at New Theatre Peterborough on 12 Dec followed by Santa’s Christmas Cracker on 19 Dec, a brand new show for 2-7 year olds who will join Father Christmas and his friends on a fun, festive, musical adventure to discover the wonder of Christmas which will also run at the Landmark Theatre Ilfracombe on Christmas Eve.

The Queen’s theatre in Barnstaple will host a brand-new Selladoor Worldwide adaptation of family favourite A Christmas Carol (17 – 19 Dec).  Starring  TV and stage favourite Jason Merrells (Agatha Raisin, Emmerdale, Casualty, Waterloo Road) This intimate one person production will take audiences on a newly imagined journey of the mean-spirited Scrooge seen through the eyes of an NHS doctor battling the uncertainty and isolation of 2020.

North Devon audiences at the Queen’s Theatre can also look forward to Gareth Gates’ Barnstaple’s Christmas Cracker (21- 31 Dec)  A show celebrating the very best in variety and pantomime, with hilarious comedy routines and show-stopping numbers starring original the Pop Idol himself and his Christmas friends, including Eurovision royalty Nicki French, father and son comedy duo Simmons and Simmons and international circus performer Naomi Scott.

Stuart Shanks, Director of Venues for Selladoor Worldwide says “Christmas would not be the same without the spirit of togetherness, friendship and community; ever-relevant themes for our world today as we prepare for a Christmas like never before. We are really excited to share our festive season with our audiences in a safe, socially distanced environment where people can once again experience the excitement and joy that live theatre brings and we cannot wait to open our doors to welcome them again”

David Hutchinson CEO at Selladoor Worldwide says “We’ve battled through all the odds and despite the unknown terrain ahead, we couldn’t be more excited to welcome our audiences back as we prepare to raise the curtain again at our three venues in time for the festive season. Our venue teams are working harder than ever to provide much needed entertainment, imaginative programming and engagement with the arts and live performance for our local communities in a safe and responsible environment.  With support from the DCMS we are committed to working hard to bridge the gap in helping our communities to continue to access theatre and retain and grow the crucial connection we as venues have with our audiences. We’re confident our audiences will come out to support us, as we and the incredible artists and creatives we work with have never needed you more than now.”
