Pitlochry Festival Theatre has announced that acclaimed Scottish stage and screen actor Siobhán Redmond will star in a new production of Happy Days.
The revival forms part of Alan Cumming’s inaugural season as Artistic Director and will run from 18 September to 10 October.
Directed by Roxana Silbert, the production brings Samuel Beckett’s iconic 1960 play back to the stage with its haunting blend of bleakness, wit and resilience.
Happy Days centres on Winnie, buried up to her waist and later her neck, who fills her days with memories, routines and fierce optimism, while her companion Willie remains on the periphery of her world.
The play is a striking exploration of endurance, isolation and the stubborn human instinct to continue despite increasingly constrained circumstances.
Siobhán Redmond, known for screen roles in Between the Lines, Two Doors Down, Death in Paradise, The Nest and Unforgotten, will take on the role of Winnie.
Her prolific stage career includes productions with the National Theatre, the Donmar, the Almeida and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Since its 1961 premiere, Happy Days has attracted many leading actors to the role of Winnie, including Billie Whitelaw, Felicity Kendal, Fiona Shaw, Dianne Wiest, Maxine Peake, Juliet Stevenson and Lisa Dwan.
The production joins a landmark season at Pitlochry Festival Theatre, which opens the venue’s 75th anniversary year and features the Scottish première of Once.
Tickets for Happy Days go on sale to members on 31 March and on general sale from 14 April.
