Stephen Daldry’s acclaimed production of J.B. Priestley’s classic thriller An Inspector Calls will embark on a major UK and Ireland tour in 2027-28, following its hugely successful 2024-25 run.

Produced by PW Productions, the award-winning revival will open at Alexandra Palace Theatre in London on 3 September 2027, where it will play for three weeks before touring to more than 20 venues across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The production will visit Aylesbury, Belfast, Dublin, Edinburgh, Blackpool, Cardiff, Eastbourne, Malvern, Salford, Norwich, Birmingham, Darlington, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Southampton, Tunbridge Wells, Shrewsbury, Liverpool, Hull, Sunderland, Wolverhampton and Leeds. Additional venues and casting are set to be announced.

When Inspector Goole arrives unexpectedly at the prosperous Birling family home, a celebratory dinner is disrupted by his investigation into the death of a young woman. As his revelations unfold, long-held assumptions are challenged and uncomfortable truths emerge.

First staged in 1992, Daldry’s landmark production has won 19 major awards, including four Tony Awards and three Olivier Awards, and has been seen by more than six million people worldwide.

Director Stephen Daldry said: “When we first created An Inspector Calls at the National Theatre in 1992, none of us could have imagined that we would still be touring the production 35 years later. It’s extraordinary that Priestley’s play continues to resonate so strongly with audiences, and perhaps more importantly, that its message remains as relevant today as ever. I’m delighted that a new generation of audiences will have the opportunity to experience it on this latest tour.”

The production features creative leadership from Stephen Daldry, with design by Ian MacNeil, lighting design by Rick Fisher, music by Stephen Warbeck and associate direction by Charlotte Peters.

Widely regarded as one of the defining productions of modern British theatre, An Inspector Calls continues to captivate audiences with its powerful storytelling and enduring social themes.
