Tamzin Outhwaite will star as Beverly in a new UK tour of Abigail’s Party, presented by Theatre Royal Bath Productions following its acclaimed Stratford East revival.

Best known for television roles in EastEnders, Red Cap, Hotel Babylon and New Tricks, Outhwaite returns to the stage in Mike Leigh’s ferocious black comedy, directed by Nadia Fall, which earned glowing reviews during its sold out 2024 run.

Set in Essex in 1977, the play introduces Beverly and her husband Laurence as they host new neighbours Angela and Tony for drinks. Sue from next door also joins, although her teenage daughter Abigail is throwing a loud party back at home. As alcohol flows and polite conversation unravels, the evening spirals into flirtation, tension and domestic chaos.

Mike Leigh’s portrait of suburban aspiration, class anxiety and social friction remains a modern classic. The play premiered at Hampstead Theatre in 1977 before its celebrated broadcast on BBC’s Play for Today. Alison Steadman originated the role of Beverly, launching her career.

Full casting and creative team for the 2026 touring production will be announced soon.
