The beloved children’s book The Detective Dog will return to theatres nationwide this spring in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
Tiny and Tall Productions will bring their acclaimed stage adaptation back on tour from Wednesday 25 March to Sunday 31 May 2026.
Specially created for Deaf and hard of hearing audiences, the show features magical puppetry, original music and interactive scent experiences designed to delight families of all ages.
The story follows Nell, an extraordinary dog with an exceptional nose and a passion for stories. When a book mysteriously disappears from her owner Peter’s school, Nell sets out to solve the case, leading families on a warm‑hearted adventure about friendship, curiosity and the joy of reading.
The production is directed by Peta Maurice and created by Tiny and Tall Productions, known for their commitment to accessible and imaginative theatre. The puppetry is led by Artistic Director Tessa Bide.
Tessa Bide said: “We can’t wait to bring The Detective Dog back out across the UK to celebrate 10 years since the brilliant book was published. Our feedback last year from audience members both deaf and hearing, children and adults, was overwhelmingly positive and we can’t wait to delight audiences all over again. We hope that we are raising the bar in terms of accessibility in children’s theatre and bringing it to audiences who were previously excluded from this magic art form.”
Based on the award‑winning picture book by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Sara Ogilvie, the show invites audiences to immerse themselves in a world of storytelling, music and sensory discovery.
The creative team includes designers Katie Sykes and Ruby Brown, composer Jack Drewry, BSL director Lynn Stewart‑Taylor, access consultant Jonny Cotsen and video designer Christopher Harrison.
