PW Productions has announced full casting and tour dates for the highly anticipated UK tour of The Woman in Black, Susan Hill’s iconic ghost story.
The production will star John Mackay as Arthur Kipps and Daniel Burke as The Actor. It opens at Storyhouse, Chester on Wednesday 24 September 2025.
Following its Chester premiere, The Woman in Black will visit 21 additional venues across the UK, including a three-week run at London’s Alexandra Palace.
John Mackay’s extensive stage credits include The Doctor at the Duke of York’s Theatre and Witness for the Prosecution at County Hall. He has also performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and appeared in numerous television series including Doctor Who, The Crown, and Bridgerton.
Daniel Burke’s previous roles include The Girl on the Train UK tour and Troilus and Cressida for the RSC. His screen credits include The Witcher for Netflix and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for Amazon Prime.
For over three decades, The Woman in Black captivated West End audiences with more than 13,000 performances at the Fortune Theatre, making it one of the longest-running plays in London theatre history.
Stephen Mallatratt’s chilling adaptation of Susan Hill’s novel follows a lawyer haunted by a mysterious spectre. As he enlists a young actor to help tell his story, the line between reality and illusion begins to blur.
First staged in 1987 at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, the production transferred to London’s Lyric Hammersmith in 1989 before settling into its legendary West End run.
Director Robin Herford returns to helm the tour, with designs by Michael Holt and lighting by Kevin Sleep.
Throughout its history, the production has remained committed to accessible ticket pricing, particularly for students and young audiences.
