Planning permission has been granted for Troubadour Greenwich Peninsula Theatre, a new 3,000-capacity venue set to open at the riverside neighbourhood in late 2026.
The new building will house two flexible 1,500-seat auditoria designed to host large-scale, ground-breaking productions using state-of-the-art technology.
The venue represents the next stage in Troubadour Theatres’ mission to bring ambitious, world-class entertainment to London audiences.
Greenwich Peninsula is already home to The O2, Design District and Ravensbourne University, alongside the Firepit Art Gallery and a free public art trail.
The arrival of Troubadour Greenwich Peninsula Theatre will further cement the area as a major cultural destination on the Thames.
Located moments from North Greenwich Underground station, the theatre will join Troubadour Theatres’ portfolio of award-winning venues across the capital.
Laura Flanagan, Director, Greenwich Peninsula, said: “Troubadour Theatre continues to set the standard for world-class live performance, with its new home at Greenwich Peninsula. The arrival of Troubadour Theatre this year demonstrates the growing strength and ambition of our cultural district – a place where creativity, community and entertainment come together. We can’t wait to welcome new audiences to the Peninsula and see our existing neighbourhood of 6,000 residents enjoy this experience right on their doorstep.”
Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, said: “It’s fantastic news that the Troubadour Greenwich Peninsula Theatre is set to open later this year. London is the theatre capital of the world, drawing millions of visitors every year, and this 3,000-capacity venue will be a brilliant addition to this ever-growing creative district, helping us continue to build a better London for everyone.”
Oliver Royds and Tristan Baker, Joint Founders and CEOs of Troubadour Theatres, said: “At Troubadour, we are driven by a belief in creating extraordinary spaces that inspire artists, audiences, and the stories they come together to share. Securing planning permission for the new Troubadour Greenwich Peninsula Theatre marks a major milestone for us, and an exciting new chapter in our commitment to bold, large-scale live performance.”
They added: “Following the success of our Canary Wharf Theatre and the world’s first stage adaptation of The Hunger Games, the opening of Greenwich Peninsula Theatre will further expand London’s cultural landscape. We are proud to be investing in the future of theatre – creating versatile, ambitious spaces designed to host landmark productions and deliver unforgettable experiences for audiences for years to come.”
