More than 7,000 exclusive £25 on-stage standing tickets have been released for the upcoming Theatre Royal Drury Lane run of Jesus Christ Superstar, as producers also confirm that Tyrone Huntley will return as Judas alongside Sam Ryder’s Jesus.
Following a box office-breaking sold out summer season at The London Palladium, the acclaimed production will transfer to Theatre Royal Drury Lane for a 12-week engagement from 16 October 2026 to 9 January 2027, ahead of a UK tour beginning in February 2027.
The newly announced on-stage standing tickets will give audiences the opportunity to stand at the heart of the action, recreating the immersive experience that proved hugely popular during the Palladium run.
More than 7,000 tickets will be available across the Drury Lane engagement, with fans positioned on stage throughout the performance for what producers describe as an electrifying, up-close experience.
Producers have also confirmed that Tyrone Huntley will continue in his critically acclaimed performance as Judas Iscariot for six performances each week. Matty J will take over the role on Thursdays while continuing to perform as Annas for the remaining performances.
Eric Lewis joins the company as Simon for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane run.
Alongside Sam Ryder as Jesus and Tyrone Huntley as Judas, the cast includes Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene, David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate, Bob Harms as Caiaphas, Phil King as Peter and Matthew Harvey as Standby Jesus.
A rotating line-up of guest performers will appear as King Herod during the engagement, including Matt Bomer, Rob Brydon, Reece Shearsmith, Bob The Drag Queen, Michael Ball, Simon Russell Beale, Omid Djalili and Layton Williams, with a final guest star for the closing week yet to be announced.
Directed by Tim Sheader, with choreography by Drew McOnie and design by Tom Scutt, the production reunites the creative team behind the Olivier Award-winning 2016 Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production.
Set during the final days of Jesus Christ’s life and told through the eyes of Judas, Jesus Christ Superstar features some of musical theatre’s most celebrated songs, including I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane and Superstar.
Following its London engagement, Sam Ryder will continue with the production on a major UK tour beginning at Manchester’s Palace Theatre on 11 February 2027.
