The critically acclaimed musical parody Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula the Sea Witch has announced its full cast for the upcoming Christmas season at The Lowry, Salford.
Running from 5 December 2025 to 11 January 2026, this splash-hit show returns following two previous sold-out runs, now featuring brand-new set and costumes and a revised two-hour running time including one interval.
Leading the cast is Sam Buttery as Ursula. Known for her role in Netflix’s Kaos, Sam is a familiar face on Manchester’s cabaret scene and will be appearing with the Unfortunate team at PRIDE Manchester this Saturday. Her stage credits include Little Shop of Horrors at Sheffield Theatres and The Addams Family Musical at the London Palladium.
Joining her is Miracle Chance (Fangirls, The Witches, Heathers) as Ariel, Allie Dart (The Comedy About Spies, 2:22 A Ghost Story) reprising her role as Sebastian, Blair Robertson (Witness for the Prosecution, Mamma Mia) as King Triton, and James Spence as Prince Eric. Ensemble members include Freya McMahon and Fionan O’Carroll.
Written by Robyn Grant and Daniel Foxx, with music by Tim Gilvin, Unfortunate dives deep into the backstory of Disney’s most iconic villain. The show promises a laugh-a-minute journey through Ursula’s world, packed with a filthy pop soundtrack, eco-friendly glitter, and a message of self-love and empowerment.
“Ursula is plump, purple and proud. A queer icon with a message for us ‘poor unfortunate souls’: love the skin you’re in, value your voice over your body, and don’t be afraid to be a little bit nasty,” the press release states.
Produced by Wildpark Entertainment, Unfortunate has enjoyed sold-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, Birmingham Hippodrome, Underbelly Earls Court, and Southwark Playhouse Elephant, with a Swedish-language production opening in Norrköping this September.
