The Citizens Theatre will host the world premiere of These Are Our Neighbours, a new dance theatre production by Katharine Williams, this October.
The production runs in the Citizens Theatre’s Studio Theatre from Wednesday 14 October to Saturday 17 October 2026, with a press night on Thursday 15 October at 7.45pm.
Produced by RUPTURE and co-produced by Company of Wolves and Katharine Williams, in association with Bijli, the show is inspired by the attempted immigration raid on Kenmure Street in 2021 and the eight-hour act of community resistance that followed.
Created through extensive research and development with the Glasgow Southside community, including people who were present at the protest, the production combines testimony, movement, music and light.
The work explores themes of solidarity, everyday humanity and collective courage, honouring what happens when people come together to stand up for one another.
The production is described as being particularly timely in light of increasing nativism in the UK and immigration raids in the USA.
These Are Our Neighbours is led by writer, performer and lighting designer Katharine Williams, working alongside director Ewan Downie and associate director Shilpa T-Hyland.
The creative team also includes composer John Biddle and designer Alisa Kalyanova, with performers Umar Butt and Leticia Sánchez, and a final cast member to be announced.
Katharine Williams said: “Throughout the journey of making THESE ARE OUR NEIGHBOURS, people who were at the protest have been central. Everything in the script is true, and comes either from interviews or published testimonies. This show owes its existence to the community that came together that day. It is their story, and it is our privilege to tell it.“
During the final rehearsal week, rehearsals will be open to the public, including members of the community who took part in the protest.
The production is supported by an integrated participation programme, featuring workshops and talks for emerging artists, South Asian artists and the wider Southside community, particularly those with lived experience of migration.
Supported by Creative Scotland, the production is presented as part of the Citizens Theatre’s programme of new work in the Studio Theatre.
