X-Factor’s Holly Tandy to Star as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz

Blackpool Winter Gardens announce that X- Factor sensation Holly Tandy will stepping into Dorothy’s iconic ruby slippers in this year’s unforgettable adventure, The Wizard of Oz at Blackpool Opera House alongside Radio Wave’s Scott Gallagher as the Cowardly Lion from 07 Dec – 30 Dec.

In 2017 Holly Tandy wowed the public with strong performances that got her all the way through to the Semi Finals of the X Factor . Holly was one of Sharon Osbourne’s Girls. She was the youngest contestant on the show at just the age of 15 and her show-stopping performance of Alicia Key’s If I Ain’t Got You at the auditions was the start of an incredible journey.  This will be Holly’s first musical theatre role and she tells us:

‘I’m over the moon, or should I say rainbow! To be taking my first stage role in such an iconic musical at such an iconic venue.  I can’t wait to get on stage!’

This highly-acclaimed adaptation from The Royal Shakespeare Company is produced by the award-winning Selladoor Family, (producers of Madagascar, Peter Pan, Seussical) and sees the return of Radio Wave favourite Scott Gallagher as the Cowardly Lion, back by popular demand following his celebrated performance in last years musical adventure at the Opera House –  Peter Pan. The Wizard of Oz features a timeless and instantly recognisable score, with classics such as We’re Off To See The Wizard, Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead!, If I Only Had A Brain and Over The Rainbow.

When a tornado whisks away a young Kansas farm girl, Dorothy, and her dog, Toto, to the merry old land of Oz, they learn that the only way to get back home is to ask for help from a great and powerful Wizard. Whilst on their quest they stumble across a Scarecrow – who is need of a brain, a Tin Man – who so desperately wants a heart, and a Lion – who could really do with some courage. Together they begin a magical journey as they head off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz.
