The Glass Menagerie Tour

The Glass Menagerie Tour

Atri Banerjee’s acclaimed production of Tennessee Williams’ semi-autobiographical masterpiece, The Glass Menagerie, first seen at the Royal Exchange Theatre, embarks on a UK tour in Spring 2024 with Geraldine Somerville (Gosford Park) reprising her role as Amanda, and further cast to be announced.

The Glass Menagerie will open at the Rose Theatre Kingston before touring to Bristol Old Vic and the Belgrade Theatre Coventry  then arriving at Alexandra Palace Theatre where the tour ends.

Tom escapes a suffocating home life through cigarettes and long visits to the movies while his sister, Laura, withdraws into her records and collection of glass animals. Their mother, Amanda, harbours dreams for them far beyond their shabby apartment. When Tom brings home a potential suitor for Laura, Amanda seizes the opportunity to try and change their fortunes forever.

The Glass Menagerie is a poetic portrayal of a family on the brink of change. This intimate and intense memory play explores the complex web of love and loyalty that binds families together in a spellbinding production.

Atri Banerjee was listed in The Stage 25 as one to watch in 2022 and previously won Best Director at The Stage Debut Awards in 2019. Prior to directing A Glass menagerie, he directed Hobson’s Choice at the Royal Exchange as well as Julius Caesar and at the RSC in Stratford upon Avon and has also been resident director at The Almeida.
