The Barn Theatre in Cirencester has announced the full cast and creative team for Yes, Prime Minister, which runs from Friday 28 August to Saturday 3 October, with a national press night on Tuesday 1 September.
The comedy by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn serves as a prequel to the Barn Theatre’s 2023 production of I’m Sorry, Prime Minister, which subsequently enjoyed a West End residency before touring the UK.
Set during a tense weekend at Chequers, the play follows newly appointed Prime Minister Jim Hacker as he grapples with a collapsing economy, political infighting, media pressure and the ever-resourceful Sir Humphrey Appleby.
The production stars Clive Hayward as Sir Humphrey and Jay Villiers as Jim Hacker.
They are joined by William Owen as Bernard Wooley, Ruth Gibson as Claire Sutton, Maurey Richards as Gordon the American Ambassador and Cameraman, and Mark Stratton as Jeremy Burnham and Simon Chester.
Hayward’s previous credits include Anne Boleyn: The Musical, What The Dickens and A Christmas Carol. Villiers has appeared in Spanish Oranges, Local Hero and Doctor Faustus.
Owen is known for television roles in EastEnders and Doctors, while Gibson’s stage work includes How The Other Half Loves, Mountains and The Patriotic Traitor.
Richards’ recent credits include The Marilyn Conspiracy, Little Women and Death of a Salesman, while Stratton has appeared in Wintex, What The Sea Saw and Deals and Deceptions.
The production features an all-female creative team, led by director Charlotte Westenra. The creative team also includes set and costume designer Anna Kelsey, lighting designer Jodie Underwood and sound designer Elizabeth Purnell.
