Review: Lucy Light at VAULT Festival

Lucy Light, written by Sarah Milton and presented by Theatre N16, tells the story of Jess and Lucy. Starting when they’re fifteen, the play maps the journey of Lucy’s decision to have a premature bilateral prophylactic mastectomy (removal of both breasts). We follow the girls from ages fifteen to twenty six, as they develop as women, deepen their understanding of their own identities, and battle with Lucy’s knowledge of the likelihood that she will develop breast cancer.

Lucy Light stars Bebe Sanders and Georgia May Hughes. Bebe graduated from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2013 and has since been in various projects including 3 Winters at The National Theatre, Twelfth Night at The Orange Tree Theatre and a variety of international shows with Jethro Compton. She is currently in rehearsals for Pebbles, which she has written and will be performing in herself. Georgia May graduated from the 3 year Acting course at Italia Conti this year. She has recently filmed on Kay Mellor’s new ITV drama Girlfriends. Lucy Light is Georgia’s professional stage debut.

Lucy Light is being presented in association, and in aid of, The Eve Appeal: the only UK national charity raising awareness and funding research into the five gynaecological cancers – ovarian, womb, cervical, vaginal and vulval – and also run a BRCA Protect research clinic. They were set up to save women’s lives by funding ground-breaking research focused on developing effective methods of risk prediction, earlier detection and developing screening for these women-only cancers. September is Gynae Cancer Awareness Month.

Lucy Light is at Theatre N16 September 19th 2017 – October 7th 2017.
