Carlos Acosta will return to the Royal Ballet and Opera this summer with Carlos Acosta: Myths and Modern Masters, a limited run from 5 to 9 August that brings together classic works and contemporary creations.

Celebrating a career spanning more than three decades, Acosta will perform José Limón’s The Moor’s Pavane for the first time. He is joined by Birmingham Royal Ballet guest artists Beatrice Parma, Max Maslen and Miki Mizutani for the one-act drama inspired by Othello.

The programme also features Acosta performing alongside dancers from Acosta Danza, as well as Enrique Bejarano Vidal and Beatrice Parma, in his Nutcracker in Havana Suite. The piece blends classical, Latin and contemporary influences to celebrate Cuban culture.

Guest dancers Katherine Ochoa and Yasiel Hodelin Bello will perform the pas de deux from Agrippina Vaganova’s Diana and Actaeon, a virtuosic piece rooted in myth and technical prowess.

Acosta will also take to the stage with Acosta Danza principal Amisaday Naara in Nosotros by Raúl Reinoso and Beatriz García, accompanied by live piano and cello.

The evening culminates with Christopher Bruce’s Rooster, with Acosta leading the Acosta Danza company in the iconic work set to songs by The Rolling Stones.

Speaking about the programme, Carlos Acosta said: ‘I am very happy to be bringing this programme to the Royal Ballet and Opera. This will be a joyful evening full of contrast and world firsts. Performing The Moor’s Pavane for the first time will be a real thrill. It was a favourite of Rudolf Nureyev’s and something that I never had the opportunity to perform before now. I also cannot wait to bring a taste of my Cuban Nutcracker in Havana to RBO audiences. Finally bringing Rooster to the RBO stage for the first time will be a fantastic feeling. I look forward to sharing all of that with everyone who will join me.’
