Soho Theatre has revealed the cast and creative team for Little Brother, the 2024 Verity Bargate Award-winning play by Eoin McAndrew.

Catherine Rees will play Brigid, with Cormac McAlinden as Niall. Conor O’Donnell joins the cast as Michael Doran, and Laura Dos Santos will take on multiple roles.

Directed by Emma Jordan, Little Brother will run in Soho Theatre’s main house from 16 October to 22 November, with Press Night on Wednesday 22 October.

Following the success of Boys on the Verge of Tears by Sam Grabiner, Little Brother continues the legacy of the Verity Bargate Award, which has launched some of the UK’s most exciting new writing talent.

The Verity Bargate Award, sponsored by Character 7, offers an £8,000 prize and a full production at Soho Theatre. The 2024 judging panel included Stephen Garrett, Moira Buffini, Anupama Chandrasekhar, Alan Cumming, Anthony Lau, and Rebecca Lucy Taylor AKA Self Esteem.

  • Production Manager: Chloe Stally-Gibson
  • Company Stage Manager: Julia Nimmo
  • Deputy Stage Manager: Abi Morris

“I’d like you to promise me that you’re not going to try and set yourself on fire again.”

At 3AM, Brigid’s phone rings. Her brother Niall is by the river with a plastic bag and lighter fluid.

Little Brother is a darkly comic exploration of sibling love, self-destruction, and the complexities of trying to save someone who doesn’t want to be saved.

Set in modern-day Belfast, the play examines the failures of support systems and the emotional toll of caregiving.

Directed by Emma Jordan, Artistic Director of Prime Cut Productions, the production promises a powerful and compassionate theatrical experience.
