Cast and Creative Team announced for Shanghai Dolls at Kiln Theatre

Kiln Theatre and Paines Plough have announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of Shanghai Dolls by Amy Ng, directed by Katie Posner.

The production will run from 3 April to 10 May 2025, with press night on Thursday 10 April at 7pm.

Gabby Wong (1899, KAOS) will play Lan Ping/Jiang Qing, while Millicent Wong (The Crucible) takes on the role of Li Lin/Sun Weishi.

       

Shanghai Dolls tells the story of two penniless actresses who meet at auditions for Ibsen’s A Doll’s House in Shanghai. Their friendship becomes intertwined with China’s political upheaval, leading one to become China’s first female director and the other to become the architect of the Cultural Revolution.

Amy Ng, the playwright, is a British-Hong Kong writer known for works such as Under the Umbrella and Acceptance.

Katie Posner, Joint Artistic Director of Paines Plough, will direct the production. Her recent credits include the Fringe First award-winning play Strategic Love Play and You Bury Me.
