Center Stage Records has announced the release of the EP for Sappho: The Poetess, available on streaming and digital platforms from Wednesday 12 August.

Written and performed by Hayley Canham and directed by Hannah Hauer-King, Sappho: The Poetess tells the untold story of Sappho, the celebrated poetess, queer icon and one of history’s earliest songwriters.

Drawing on the life of the lyric poet from the Greek island of Lesbos, the musical explores themes of love, longing, friendship and beauty which continue to resonate more than two millennia later.

Canham is known for her work in The Hard Problem at the National Theatre and Matilda the Musical at the Cambridge Theatre, while Hauer-King’s recent credits include The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs at Kiln Theatre and The Swell at Orange Tree Theatre.

The EP has been produced by Sam Young, Hayley Canham and Ramin Sabi, with Pierpaolo Demarchi serving as recording and mixing engineer.
