Crybabies will return to Soho Theatre this autumn with their latest show The Scaring, fresh from Edinburgh Fringe, running from 3 to 23 September 2026.

The trio, made up of Michael Clarke, James Gault and Ed Jones, reunite with Olivier Award-winning producers Francesca Moody Productions and director Jon Brittain for the new production.

Following the success of their previous Soho Theatre hits Bagbeard and Danger Brigade, the group’s latest work promises a blend of absurd comedy and theatrical horror.

The Scaring follows former priest Arthur Holland, who checks into a remote hotel only to find himself confronting supernatural forces alongside Gerry, the ghost of a long-dead guest.

The show combines classic horror tropes with Crybabies’ signature surreal humour, featuring a fast-paced narrative, rapid costume changes and a host of eccentric characters.

Audiences can expect “Shakespearean zombies, broken-armed serial killers and walking waxworks” in a production described as both theatrical and deliberately DIY in style.

The production is directed by Jon Brittain, whose credits include Baby Reindeer and Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder!, with design by Cecilia Carey and lighting by Bethany Gupwell.

Sound design is by Ed Lewis, with video design by Nina Dunn and illusions by John Bulleid.

Crybabies said: “We’re thrilled to be performing at Soho Theatre for the first time since 2023. And because the world hasn’t become terrifying enough in those convening years, we thought we’d do a horror. Inspired by everything from Scary Movie to scary movies, we’re determined to put even more boos into the Soho evening air. The fact we’ve managed to drag the good folks of FMP into it is still, quite frankly, baffling.”

Francesca Moody added: “I’m delighted that we’re transferring this horrifyingly funny show to Soho Theatre. It’s hugely exciting to be bringing together the comic genius of Crybabies with the imagination of a top tier creative team led by Jon Brittain. This wonderfully talented group of people are making something ambitious, surprising and truly terrifying.”

The company have built a strong following in recent years, with their BBC radio series Crybabies Present… earning award nominations and their live shows consistently receiving critical acclaim.
