Abby Goldfarb makes her Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut with Most of My Moms Are Gay, an original comedy musical exploring identity, family and growing up unconventionally. A native New Yorker and self-described “ingéjew”, Goldfarb draws on her unique upbringing as the daughter of five mothers in a sharply funny and deeply personal show.

Conceived as a response to her own identity crisis upon reaching the age her mother was when she had her, Goldfarb’s story turns introspective reflection into vibrant musical theatre. Rather than turning to therapy, she has crafted a heartfelt and irreverent production filled with humour and candour.

The show covers a wide range of themes, from gay divorce and sexual awakenings to Jewish identity, OCD and career struggles. At its core, Most of My Moms Are Gay is a celebration of unconventional family life, brought to life through storytelling and 13 original songs.

The musical is co-created with Jody Shelton, known for his work with Baby Wants Candy, and directed by Eddie Grey, winner of the 2024 New Play Award at the Australian Theatre Festival. Together, the team brings a dynamic and engaging production to the Fringe stage, blending comedy with emotional depth.

Goldfarb’s previous credits include Off-Broadway productions such as Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish and Harmony, and this debut musical marks an exciting new chapter in her creative career.
