Saving Britney returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, a solo show examining celebrity culture, fandom and identity through the story of a devoted Britney Spears fan.
Written by David Shopland and performed by Shereen Roushbaiani, the production follows Jean as she navigates her own life alongside the rise, public scrutiny and legal battles of her idol. As the #FreeBritney movement unfolds, the show draws parallels between celebrity narrative and personal experience.
Blending humour with reflection, the piece explores the nature of parasocial relationships and the way audiences project their own lives onto public figures. It also looks at media representation, control and the complexities surrounding fame and mental health.
Roushbaiani said, “Saving Britney was born to make you happy… this show is a massive piece of me, and I feel so excited… to bring everyone the next chapter.”
Saving Britney runs at Underbelly George Square from 05 – 30 August at 18:15. Tickets are on sale here
