Half Trick Theatre bring back their cult hit The Faustus Project to the Edinburgh Fringe, following award nominations and a standout run at Brighton Fringe.

This irreverent and partially improvised take on Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus sees a different guest performer take on the title role each night, without rehearsal. Thrust into a world of devilish challenges, pranks and mind games, each performer must navigate the performance in real time, creating a unique experience for every audience.

At the centre of the production is a sense of theatrical risk, with the ensemble devising increasingly fiendish scenarios designed to test their unsuspecting guest. Director Caden Scott, who also appears as Mephistopheles, promises a show that pushes boundaries: “No two shows are the same… I highly recommend strapping in for the ride.”

The 2026 run will feature a line-up of guest performers yet to be announced, alongside core ensemble members Alex Medland, Courtney Bassett and Moira Hamilton. The show has earned a reputation as a “legendary rite of passage” for performers and a late-night favourite for Fringe audiences.

Combining chaos, comedy and classic text, The Faustus Project offers a high-energy theatrical experience that continues to evolve with each performance.
