Five Star Review from Theatre WeeklyThe Black Blues Brothers return to the Edinburgh Fringe with Let’s Twist Again, a dazzling new production that builds on their signature blend of circus spectacle and vintage charm. Staged at Underbelly’s McEwan Hall, this hour-long show is an outstanding display of physical theatre, acrobatics and sheer entertainment.

Set in a smoky train station, the story begins with five sharply dressed performers waiting to catch a train to Chicago. A missed connection, thanks to a romantic phone call, sets the stage for a spontaneous celebration. With a vintage jukebox as their catalyst, the cast launch into a whirlwind of twist and rock’n’roll, transforming the station into a playground of extraordinary feats.

There is no spoken dialogue, but none is needed. The performers communicate through movement, music and expression, creating a mesmerising experience that transcends language. The soundtrack, featuring classics pulses through the space, driving the energy and rhythm of the show.

The acrobatics are nothing short of astonishing. From gravity-defying balancing acts to human pyramids and rope routines, each sequence is executed with precision and flair. The performers peel off parts of the set to use as props, adding a layer of ingenuity to the choreography. Their training at Sarakasi in Nairobi is evident in every confident leap and twist, and their collaboration with director Alexander Sunny and choreographers Electra Preisner and Ahara Bischoff results in a seamless fusion of circus and theatre.

Though reminiscent of their previous Fringe outings, Let’s Twist Again feels fresh and exhilarating. The audience was visibly enthralled, erupting in applause and laughter throughout. The ensemble’s charisma is infectious, and their playful skits offer glimpses into each performer’s personality, making the spectacle feel personal as well as impressive.

This is a production that celebrates joy, movement and the magic of live performance. It’s a rare feat to combine technical brilliance with such warmth and humour, but The Black Blues Brothers achieve it effortlessly. Whether you’re a circus aficionado or simply looking for an unforgettable hour of entertainment, Let’s Twist Again is a must-see.
