Five Star Review from Theatre WeeklyDangerous Goods is an empowering, multi-talented and uplifting cabaret presented by Polytoxic, Quiet RIOT and Assembly Festival, running at Palais du Variété at Assembly George Square Gardens until 24 August.

Dangerous Goods brings together performances by some of the world’s most talented artists, including circus acts, aerialists, drag, burlesque and powerful vocalists. Bang by hoop artist Lillikoi Kaos transforms the small stage into a vast space, featuring a variety of provocative moves. Strict Machine by aerial straps performer Bridie Hooper displays gravity-defying feats, earning cheers and applause from the entire audience. Lisa Fa’alafi, Leah Shelton, Kalala Sione, Mayu Muto and Jazida are also outstanding performers whose exuberant shows will blow your mind. Everything on stage tonight is dangerous goods. You’ll never know whether the next act is a sweetheart or a bomb, leaving you both cautious and eager.

Live music adds profound significance to the performers’ remarkable technical skills. As the lyrics sing, “You’re 100% perfect,” the performers display their captivating charm and powerful strength, conveying a sense of breaking through all limitations to achieve their desires. We are all unique individuals with the power and freedom to choose how to use our bodies. Through extraordinary challenges, they amplify voices that have been overlooked by society, advocating for the recognition and repositioning of marginalised or diverse groups within the community.

Each original work challenges a classic stereotype, ingeniously combining highly difficult movements with groundbreaking narratives. Through their choreography, the audience can genuinely feel the rebellious power within. Aggression is also a manifestation of vitality. However, those who feel threatened by women’s rebellious qualities may simply be acting out of fear of themselves. Don’t hold back from being sexy, being powerful, or being whoever you want to be! This work urges us to avoid limiting ourselves, to understand a wider range of perspectives and to embrace greater possibilities.

Dangerous Goods is a chaotic, visually stunning and rebellious cabaret.
