Edinburgh Preview: Hans: Like A German at The Blue Room: Assembly Rooms

Hans The Boy Wonder From Berlin

Hans The Boy Wonder From Berlin

International superstar Hans – the boy wonder of Berlin, who is about to appear on America’s Got Talent this season – is set to bring his brand new show Like a German to the UK and to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August at the newly created Assembly George Street venue The Red Room. Critically acclaimed around the world, Hans delivers an all-singing, all tap-dancing, accordion-pumping, glittering blitzkrieg of cabaret extravaganza!

Backed by his band The Ungrateful Bastards, ‘Like a German’ is a party night extravaganza with more spark than a Studio 54 mirror ball!  A little bit Marlene, a little bit Madonna, a little bit Minogue and a little bit Merkle! Audiences will be bombarded with pop classics in this energetic comedy cabaret.

With over a decade on the stage, Hans (the satirical creation of Australian media identity Matt Gilbertson) has become an Adelaide cabaret icon and a darling of the Fringe circuit.

In 2016 he attended the Edinburgh Fringe as ambassador for Arts South Australia’s “Made in Adelaide” programme and returned in 2017 with his show ‘Mein Camp’. The show also hit London, soaking up numerous sold out shows and five star reviews along the way as well as being named “Best Cabaret” by the Scottish Sun.

Away from Hans, Gilbertson has forged a long career as a Journalist for The Advertiser and Sunday Mail, has worked in radio (Nova 919, MIx 102.3) and is a regular on Australian television (Sunrise, Studio 10). Both Gilbertson and Hans have cosied up to some of the world’s biggest stars, including Naomi Campbell, Pink, Ricky Martin, Bjorn from ABBA etc. In 2008, he achieved a world record for continuous accordion playing, squeezing out almost 30 consecutive hours of Madonna tunes without a break. Yes… REALLY!
