The Young Vic has released first-look rehearsal images for Eurotrash, the forthcoming stage adaptation of Christian Kracht’s international bestselling novel, starring Kathryn Hunter and Ben Whishaw.
Directed by Walter Meierjohann and adapted by Colin Teevan, the production opens in the Young Vic’s Main House on 13 November and runs until 9 January 2027, with a press night scheduled for 19 November.
Alongside the release of the new rehearsal images, the theatre has announced two additional performances on 28 December and 2 January, giving audiences another chance to see the production following strong demand.
Hunter and Whishaw play Mother and Christian respectively, joined by Deanna H. Choi and Glyn Pritchard. The company also includes understudies Annabel Arden and Chris Jared.
For the additional performances, Arden will play Mother and Jared will play The Janitor on 28 December, while Jared will take on the role of Christian on 2 January.
Eurotrash follows a blocked novelist who is summoned to Zurich by his ageing mother, a woman struggling to hold her life together through vodka, pills and Ferragamo sweaters. Together they embark on a chaotic journey across Switzerland, attempting to give away the family fortune while confronting both personal and European histories.
Described as a darkly comic travelogue and a poignant search for redemption and connection, the story combines biting humour with an exploration of family, guilt and identity.
The creative team includes set and costume designer Lizzie Clachan, lighting designer Richard Howell, composer and co-sound designer Deanna H. Choi, co-sound designer Charlie Smith, movement director Jozef Houben and wigs, hair and make-up designer Kim Kasim.
The production is a co-production between the Young Vic and Red Peter.
