A Monkey with Cymbals has announced the UK tour of Haunted Shadows: The Gothic Tales of Edith Nesbit, a chilling one-woman show starring Claire Louise Amias and directed by horror expert Jonathan Rigby.

The tour begins on 24 October 2025 and runs until 9 May 2026, with the press night taking place on Halloween—31 October—at Greenwich Theatre, London.

In Haunted Shadows, Edith Nesbit revisits her own childhood terrors while recounting three of her most haunting Gothic tales: The Shadow, The Pavilion, and A Strange Experience.

Claire Louise Amias, who won the 2024 Hamilton Deane Award for her performance, brings Nesbit to life in a gripping portrayal that reveals the darker side of the beloved author of The Railway Children.

Jonathan Rigby, known for his expertise in horror, directs the production. He said of the show:
“E. Nesbit was far more than just the creator of The Railway Children. In this beguiling one-woman show, Claire Louise Amias takes us into the dark heart of the legendary writer’s ghost stories – unexpected, wonderfully weird and with a very particular Edwardian atmosphere.”

The show was first performed at Islington’s Old Red Lion Theatre in 2024, marking the centenary of Nesbit’s death, and later transferred to the White Bear Theatre in Kennington.

Edith Nesbit’s connection to Greenwich adds a local resonance—she lived in Well Hall, Eltham, Blackheath, Lee and Lewisham.
